Dr Umashankar performed approximately 10,000 eye procedures during his two decades of ophthalmology practice to date.
Education
Dr. Umashankar completed his graduation and post-graduation from Madras Medical College, one of the most reputed medical institutes in India. He has also passed the Diplomate of National Board of Examination (DNB), India and Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) from Glasgow, UK.
Job experience
Dr. Umashankar completed his Fellowship training in anterior segment, oculoplasty and paediatric ophthalmology at Sankara Nethralaya, which is one the largest tertiary eye care centres in India. He continued to work as a consultant in Trauma, Oculoplasty and Cataract Service at Sankara Nethralaya for four years.
Dr Umashankar undertook several clinical attachments in hospitals in the UK such as Leicester Royal Infirmary and Burnley General Hospital before joining as Medical Director at Bhagwan Mahaveer Eye Hospital in Chennai, India.
