Dr. Rathanaswamy has a rich experience in the field of surgical oncology. He commenced his career as a Senior Resident in Surgical Oncology at the well-known Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, followed by a stint as a Senior Medical Officer in the Department of Emergency PGI, Chandigarh and as an Assistant Professor in the Department of General Surgery SMVMCH, Pondicherry, all in India. He also served as a Senior Resident in Surgical Oncology at the Apollo Specialty Cancer Centre and KGMC, Lucknow, both in India. He worked as a Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology at Apollo Specialty Cancer Centre before moving to UAE as a Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Zulekha Hospital.
Dr. Rathanaswamy has successfully treated an extensive range of cancers with the latest technology and procedures. In the treatment for breast cancer, he uses breast conservation surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy, oncoplastic surgery and immediate reconstruction. Procedures used for gynaecological cancers include ovary cytoreduction, HIPEC, Wertheim’s hysterectomy and fertility preservation surgeries. To manage gastrointestinal cancers, Dr. Rathanaswamy follows procedures like esophagectomy, D2 gastrectomy, colectomy, sphincter sparing surgery and abdominoperineal resection. For hepatobiliary pancreatic cancers, he has effectively used the Whipple procedure, radical cholecystectomy and hepatectomy. He has treated head and neck cancers by doing an oral cancer resection reconstruction, laryngectomy, thyroidectomy, and parotidectomy. He uses limb salvage surgery for bone and soft tissue sarcomas; for lung cancer, he performs procedures like lobectomy, pneumonectomy and metastasectomy. In the treatment of genitourinary cancers, he uses the latest procedures like radical nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, radical cystectomy with reconstruction, penectomy, and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND).
