Dr. Shibu Varghese is an Indian, South African, and German-educated and trained Orthopedic Specialist.
• He is an Arthroplasty and Arthroscopic Surgeon with Fellowship training in Orthopedic Sports Medicine with extensive experience in orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, injury prevention, and medical education. With 15 years of experience as a physician, his excellent knowledge in general orthopedics surgery and hands-on expertise in sports medicine, anti-doping, joints reconstruction, injury prevention, and arthroscopy.
• Dr. Varghese has worked with many international sports teams, including the Indian Super League (2016) and the Cape Cobras Cricket team in South Africa (2013-14), Kerala Blasters Football Club. He previously worked with the English Cricket County and Indian Cricket as an anti-doping officer and continues to serve as a medical and anti-doping officer for the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA.
• In 2019, he served as the medical officer for UFC 242 at Abu Dhabi and medical officer for the heavyweight professional boxing rematch between the Mexican-American champion Andy Ruiz Jr. and British former champion Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia.
• Dr. Varghese serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Abu Dhabi Saracens Rugby Club. He also serves as a medical committee member of the UAE Rugby Federation and Ambassador – to the Middle East for the International Institute of Race Medicine. He is also associated with the Badminton World Federation as a classifier.
