Dr. Johns Shaji Mathew is a skilled Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgeon at Medcare Hospital, Sharjah. He completed his MBBS from the Mahatma Gandhi University, India and then pursued a post-graduation in General Surgery (MS) from Annamalai University. He completed a one-month Observership in the Department of HPB Surgery and Transplant at MIE University Hospital, Japan. Additionally, he is qualified as an MCh in Surgical Gastroenterology from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kerala. He is certified in Robotic Surgery in the da Vinci® Xi System and has undergone International Training in Machine Perfusion of the Liver at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge University, UK. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS), Edinburgh.
Dr. Mathew began his career as a Resident at the Christian Medical College. With over a decade of consultant-level experience, he manages complex diseases of the liver, pancreas, and the biliary system. His clinical practice is centred on advanced hepatobiliary surgery, including the treatment of primary liver tumours, liver metastases, pancreatic tumours, complex biliary disorders, and gallbladder disease. After working in India for some time, he moved to the UAE and worked as a Consultant Transplant & HPB Surgeon at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi, before joining Medcare.
