Dr Gourab Sen is a Consultant and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgeon practising at Medcare Hospital – Sharjah and Medcare Royal Speciality Hospital. He completed his MBBS and MS from the University of Calcutta, India. Additionally, he holds a research degree (MD) from Newcastle University, UK, and completed higher surgical training in the North-East of England, earning his CCT from the Royal College of Surgeons and a Diploma from the European Society of Organ Transplantation (HESPERIS). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in General Surgery from the Intercollegiate Surgical Specialty Board, UK and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), Edinburgh. He is a member of the European Society for Organ Transplantation, the Association of Upper GI Surgeons (AUGIS), UK, the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI), UK, the British Association for the Study of the Liver (BASL) and the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery Association (IHPBA).
With over two decades of experience in HPB and Transplant Surgery, Dr. Sen has worked across India, the UK and the UAE. He has performed more than 450 liver transplants and has extensive expertise in kidney and pancreas transplantation. During his time in the UK as a Consultant HPB and as Clinical Lead for his Unit, he led multi-disciplinary teams to deliver expert management of liver, biliary and pancreatic cancer and complex benign biliary diseases, including gallbladder surgery. A certified robotic surgeon, he has performed complex robotic liver and pancreatic resections for malignancy. After moving to the UAE, he practised at Burjeel Medical City and also served as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Gulf Medical University, Ajman.
